We’ve heard from many of you that it would be helpful to have a central resource bank that you can refer to when drafting comments—a place where you can access these examples and studies. So, we’re building it now—a searchable resource bank on our War Room webpage.
Here’s how to help, starting today: Upload resources to this Dropbox link. Send anything you’re comfortable sharing with fellow advocates. We’ll organize it and populate the resource library as it comes in. Some examples of the kinds of resources that will be especially useful are listed below but please don’t feel limited to these. If you have created a template letter for outreach to elected officials, or sent a letter to your elected officials, or created a social media post template or any other kind of resource you feel may help others, please share!
We’re looking for stories and data that will help us describe:
- Efficiencies of 106 process: Data about the Section 106 process; many SHPOs have been compiling the numbers and demonstrating how effective and efficient Section 106 is. For example, check out data Sarah Love compiled in Georgia.
- Historic properties saved by 106: Others of you have been collecting examples of particular historic properties that were saved by Section 106. For example, the French Quarter! Also, check out this great resource from Lane County, Oregon.
- Places that could be lost: Examples of places that could be lost if these new regulations were to go into effect—for example, many sacred places to Tribes would no longer be considered at all in the Section 106 process if the new definitions of historic property were finalized.
This is our collective toolkit— let’s build it together! The more real stories and hard evidence we gather, the stronger every comment becomes!
