Sixty years ago today, Congress passed the National Historic Preservation Act. Since then, Section 106 has asked one simple thing of the federal government: look before you damage or destroy historic places.
Before an agency builds, funds, permits, or approves a project, it has to find the historic and sacred places in the way, hear from Tribal Nations and the communities who’d be affected, and look for ways to avoid the damage. Today, that protection is now under attack on legislative, regulatory, and executive fronts all at once. To mark the anniversary, the 106 Strong Coalition made a short video.
Watch the video, grab the advocacy materials, and call your Senators and tell them to vote NO on the Bipartisan Affordability and Jobs Act! Let’s make sure that the National Historic Preservation Act survives its 60th year.
