Phillip Mendenhall

Cultural Resources Fellow

Phillip is an archaeologist with more than 20 years of experience working across 17 U.S. states and 10 countries. At Cultural Heritage Partners, Phillip reviews project reports and documentation, conducts background research, and advises on consultations related to the NHPA, NEPA, and other environmental regulations.

About Phillip

Phillip has developed new methodologies for studying past North American Indigenous populations from a community-based perspective. He is a registered member of the Western Band of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma.

Phillip is a board member of the Institute of American Indian Studies, in Washington, CT and a community Elder for the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center, Pittsburgh, PA. He also serves on the Committee on Native American Relations with the Society for American Archaeology.

Phillip received his BA in Anthropology at the University of Texas at Arlington and his MA in Russian and Eurasian Studies at the European University at St. Petersburg, Russia. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Pittsburgh.
